This fish is one of the most highly desirable African cichlids found in the hobby today. This fish, along with a few other fish, is often called by the common name Electric Blue Johanni but the more accurate name is Maingano Cichlid. This fish has the usual torpedo like body shape of most African cichlids, with blue and black stripes horizontally down each side. This fish does not make a very good community tank member, and is much better off in a species specific tank containing a male and several females. They can be housed with other Malawi cichlid tank mates, as long as they do not have a similar appearance.
