Reliable Heating Element - Use an external temp controller

Pros:
The price is great and the heating element is reliable
Cons:
Would not recomend if using with the internal thermostat
I have purchased heaters from several manufacturers over the years for our 240G reef tank. So far these have been the best as long as you are using a reliable external temperature controller(RANCO). Since they are glass heaters I was somewhat concerned having them sitting in the our sump which is full of live rock. The only failure I have experienced in eight years was when one of them had inadvertently ended up above the waterline and cracked from heat stress.

Perfect for heating my R/O buckets

Pros:
effecient - economical
Cons:
I bought one of these (50W) for heating my R/O water buckets - and to use in my emergency hospital bucket (hospital tank houses all healthy fish now). I have a Theo 25W, but it just wasn't quite powerful enough - and now that room temperature is lower, the 25W wouldn't hold temperature in the hospital bucket. I selected the Theo 50W for the price and it works great for my purpose. I have another brand of heaters in my aquariums for the aesthetic value and safety (they are black and non-breakable) - but those cost quite a bit more, too. While a 25W should be fine for heating a 10 gallon aquarium, I recommend stepping up to this Theo 50W. It will do a better job for you. I originally had the Theo 25W in my 10 gallon, but even in the summer months, it had a hard time maintaining temperature and was replaced with a 50W heater from a brand I knew I liked.

Pros:
The dial has actual numbers on it, heats well, Sleek Design
Cons:
Over heats sometimes
This is a great heater. I use it in my 36 gallon bow tank and it keeps the water perfect for my cichlids. Although sometimes I think it heats the water longer then it should/too much and the tank gets a little too warm. But that could maybe just be my heater. Otherwise it works excellent. Has a great sleek design so its easily covered by decorations or hides well in the corner of the tank.

Meh

Pros:
Effective
Cons:
Difficult to Use, Inaccurate
The main thing with this heater was that the scale for temperature was WAY off, 5 or more degrees. It took several weeks of monkeying around with it trying to get it to keep a consistent temperature. Even then, I'd find over time it would vary 3-5 degrees. Even an el cheapo with mechanical contacts won't vary that badly. Though I still use this heater as a back-up in my 60g, I'd say try something else.

Temperature control, at best, approximat

Pros:
Cons:
Temp control not accurate
This is the only brand of heater I ever had, where one of them actually failed. Another one (out of a total of five that I've tried), can be up to five degrees off from where you set it.
