Notes: Will host cardinal fish (Apogon sp.) and saron shrimp, which use the spines of the urchin for protection during the day. The spines of the urchin can inflict a sting, that produces allergic reactions similar to a bee/wasp sting. This and other urchins are preyed upon by triggers and wrasses, who flip the urchin over by blowing a stream of water at it.
† Reported to eat Acropora palmata and some polyps completely. Primarily feeds on algae, including coralline, and detritus.
