Zebra Obliquidens Cichlid
Zebra Obliquidens Cichlid, Haplochromis obliquidens, is a popular African fish that is fairly peaceful for a fish of its type and size. A Lake Victoria native, its displays sweeping black vertical bars and a nice gold-yellow on the underside. A mouthbrooder, males can get aggressive at spawning time, but otherwise they do well in groups and in mixed groupings with other Africans of similar temperament. Also popular because of its maximum size of around 4 inches, the Zebra Obliquidens requires a lot of vegetation or other decoration it can use for cover. It is said to be frequently found hovering within the undersides of piers and in the shoreline rocky terrain of its native waters. An omnivore that does require some vegetation in its diet, its specialized mouth will help it scrape algae and vegetable matter from rocks.
