Zebra Danio
Zebra Danio, Brachydanio rerio, is a hardy, active aquarium fish which can withstand a variety of water temperatures and water conditions -- even poor water conditions. Originating from flowing streams along the coast of India, it prefers clean, well-aerated water with a high level of movement. Danios prefer to travel in schools and, if kept singly, can become bored and pick on other fish, but typically without any real damage. The Zebra Danio is easily recognized by its blue-gray body with yellow-gold horizontal striping. With the exception of the dorsal fin, this striping pattern is continued through all non-paired fins. It is fairly easy to breed and will often deposit its eggs in a layer of marbles left at the bottom of the aquarium. The Zebra Danio will eagerly accept dry, frozen, and live preparations and should be fed frequently, without being overfed.
