Young Soft Coral

Young Soft Coral, Cladiella sp., is a great addition to the reef aquariums for aquarists of all experience levels. It is, however, a coral that thrives best in high lighting and with a high water flow. Depending on the individual aquarium characteristics (lighting, water flow), it may do fine at any level of the aquarium. It is typically seen in its brown or beige variations. Young Soft Coral, as it grows and comes in contact with other corals, will likely cause damage. When placed under duress, such as during shipping, it will secrete a mucus-like layer for protection. This layer should be removed by agitation in saltwater prior to being placed in its new home. It will benefit from feedings of any supplement designed for filter feeders. Iodine and strontium will help ensure its continued health.
