White Sleeper Goby
White Sleeper Goby, Valenciennea sexguttata, often occurs in pairs and is a great substrate stirrer. With a maximum length at around five inches, its size makes it perfect for large and for small aquariums. Also known as the Sixspot Sleeper Goby, it is beneficial in that it will eat small bristleworms from the substrate as it sifts food through its gills. This is typical of any members of the Valenciennea genus, including the Diamond Goby and Yellow Head Sleeper Goby. Their bodies reflect sheens of blue, but most are a brilliant white, overall. Black spots are on the dorsal fin and some blue spotting is visible below and behind the mouth. It will accept a variety of foods including brine shrimp and bloodworms, and will typically accept flake food fairly easily. Like other members of the Goby family, this fish is a skilled leaper and requires a tightly covered aquarium. It is peaceful against other species, but may be defensive of its territory to other members of its own family. If more than one is to be placed in the same aquarium, it is best to introduce them simultaneously and to allow plenty of space. This reef-safe fish readily adapts to a diet of frozen or live shrimp such as Mysis Shrimp or Brine Shrimp, but does require frequent feeding to ensure best health.
