Twelve Line Wrasse

Twelve Line Wrasse, Pseudocheilinus tetrataenia, is an active, colorful, reef-safe fish that does well once acclimated. As is true with its cousin, the Six Line Wrasse, it can be a touchy shipper but typically does fine if extra time is allowed for the water exchange steps of acclimation. This Wrasse is also known as the Four Line Wrasse. Presumably, it depends on whether its four main stripes are considered a single stripe, or whether the bordering stripe above and below each white stripe is counted, thus making twelve stripes. Having a maximum size around 3 inches, caution must be used to not place the Twelve Line Wrasse with larger or more aggressive fish. It should be the only member of the Pseudocheilinus in each aquarium, unless plenty of space is provided and the introduction is simultaneous. This genus does include the popular Six Line Wrasse. As with other members of the Wrasse family, its diet should be carnivorous including meaty frozen foods or Brine Shrimp. A sand bed and Live Rock should be provided for all Wrasses. Live Rock provides numerous small life forms that Wrasses consider a tasty treat as well as another place to hide when they feel threatened. The Twelve Line Wrasse can be a leaper and, therefore, requires a covered aquarium.
