Titan Trigger
Titan Trigger, Balistoides viridescens, requires very little care but does require a great deal of space. In the wild, this fish can reach Titanic proportions of about 30 inches in length. While smaller Titan Triggers will find security in numbers and in the safety of Acropora coral branches, larger Titan Triggers are much more open water swimmers. Animated in character and deliberate in its movements, this hardy carnivore is great for aquarists of all experience levels. Its face has a split coloration of a green-gold above the mouth and white below the mouth into the chin area. Its white body is covered with a latticed black pattern. This fish is known to make grunting noises and will keep its teeth sharp by picking up rocks and other decorations provided. These Triggers can be kept with other members of their own species if they are in a large enough tank. For best results when grouping add multiple juveniles at the same time. In the wild, this fish can grow to lengths of two feet and is harvested as food in some parts of the world. This must be done with caution, as the skin of Pineapple Triggers in some areas is ciguatoxic (poisonous) if eaten. A variety of meat-based preparations fed multiple times daily as well as some squid and krill soaked in a vitamin supplement will keep this fish well nourished and happy.
