A school of Tiger Barbs, Capoeta tetrazona, can add a tremendously dramatic effect to the freshwater aquarium. These beautiful fish are metallic shining gold in color with five (thus tetra in the scientific name) black, vertical bars traversing the body. Males are adorned with red accent marking at the nose, and on the top fin, bottom fin, and tail fins. A fin-nipper when kept singly or in smaller groups, it should be kept with fish of equal semi-aggressiveness or, as previously suggested, kept in a large group as the primary species of the aquarium. It is theorized that larger groups are less likely to be aggressive toward other aquarium inhabitants.
