Synodontis Multipunctatus

The Synodontis multipunctatus is quite a beautiful scavenger that is a true prize. Also known as the Cuckoo Catfish, it is an African Cat from Lake Tanganyika. Growing to a length of 10” in the wild, its down turned, barbelled mouth is perfectly adapted to forage for food. Foods intended for bottom dwellers such as sinking pellet foods are nearly a necessity. To help provide a varied diet, Bloodworms and Tubifex Worms make a great treat. This Catfish is usually found singly as adults, hiding during the day. Multiple smaller specimens introduced simultaneously typically do fine. It can make a good scavenger for an African Cichlid aquarium, though it may not tolerate other Synodontis cats. A silver gray body with multipunctatus (“multiple spots”) and a forked tail with black V-marking, it will mostly be active at night or when food is added to the aquarium. It needs to be treated as a smooth skin catfish when treating for parasite infestations. As typically behavior for many of the Synodontis genus, it is not unusual to find this fish hovering upside-down inside of a cave or under a piece of driftwood.

Approximate Arrival Size for Synodontis Multipunctatus: 1.5 to 3 in.
