Native primarily to Hawaii and the Central Pacific, the Sphex Lionfish has slightly more extended rays than many other Pterois species. It will usually perch on the Live Rock or substrate, waiting in ambush for prey. As with all Lionfish, the spines are venomous and extreme care should be taken when acclimating and when performing maintenance on their aquarium. They will eat smaller fish and shrimp. They may adapt to prepared meaty foods like Krill, Silversides and bits of fish.
