This shallow water reef dweller is usually found in very shallow reef areas of 3 to 9 feet, but on rare occasions it has been found at depths of nearly 100 feet. In the wild the Speckled Citrinellus Butterfly will graze on both coral polyps and algae, but in captivity it will graze on algae and will usually take to eating commercially prepared frozen foods as well. This fish should not be kept in a reef tank with corals, as it is likely to damage coral polyps.
