Skunk Tile Goby
Skunk Tile Goby, Hoplolatilus marcosi, adds a colorful “candy cane” effect when swimming in a pair or group. An attractive and active addition to either the reef or fish only aquarium, it requires open space and does best in conditions that are not overcrowded. Also known as the Marcos Tilefish, the Skunk Tile Goby does best in pairs or in groups. Tilefish prefer sandy aquarium substrates and a lot of Live Rock. They will tend to keep to themselves rather than “mingling” with other species. Groupings should be introduced together. This energetic swimmer requires frequent feedings – three or more feedings daily – because of its high metabolism. In its darting and dashing, Tilefish do like to leap during play and, therefore, require a covered aquarium. Its bold red stripe covers its back and extends into the tail. The remainder of its body is an intense white. White strips forming a “V” appear above and below the red tail. Harmless to Corals, Tilefish are carnivores who will accept about any meaty food. As a food that will add better volume to its diet, pellet, live and frozen foods are preferable to flake.
Approximate Arrival Size for Tilefish: 2 to 5 in.
