Silver Molly

The Silver Molly is a farm raised color morph of the wild type Poecilia shenops, first described by Valenciennes in 1846. The wild type is found in Mexico and Central America. The Silver Molly has been selectively bred to produce a fish with a solid silver body and fins. There may be a bit of black flecking on the body. As a livebearer, the male will have a pointed shaped anal fin (gonopodium) while the female has a fan shaped anal fin. Growing to about 3 inches in length, the Silver Molly is an omnivore and will eat most all aquarium foods. Be sure to include some vegetable based foods in the diet. As a Molly, this fish prefers harder water with a fair amount of salt, up to one cup per 10 gallons! The Silver Molly will prefer cover in the aquarium and will spend most of its time hovering near an ornament/rock/driftwood. Very peaceful, they will get along with almost all Community fish. The Silver Molly can be kept in pairs or small groups, the males are not that aggressive towards one another.
