Silver Dollar

Silver Dollar, Metynnis argenteus, has rightly earned its place as one of the more popular freshwater aquarium fish. Its notable coloration and active personality help it garner much attention. This South American native is often confused by appearance, with its more formidable cousin, the Pirahna. This fish is extremely peaceful to all but the smallest of fish and typically does great in a community auqarium environment. Its one drawback is that the aquarist must be preared for its size. This fish can grow to a maximum size of around six inches. Preferring clean, well-aerated water, the Silver Dollar is an enthusiastic eater that does fine singularly, but prefers to swim in groupings. The shiny silver body and red accented fins make this fish a real eye-catcher.
