Sand Conch Snail
Sand Conch Snail, Strombus luhuanus, is an intriguing and functional snail. A Tonga and Marshall Islands native, its reef safe characteristics teamed with its actions as a herbivore and a detrivore make it an excellent choice for the home aquarium. Growing to a maximum potential size around two inches, the Sand Conch is a peaceful creature who will graze on algae as well as assist with beneficial sand stirring. As detrivores, members of the Strombus genus help keep the substrate clean and aerated by burrowing. Other recommended sand stirrers are noted as Related Products. Pockets of harmful gases may be released by this action. The Sand Conch will not bother fellow invertebrates, but may be picked on by some larger and more aggressive fish.
