Saddleback Butterflyfish
Saddleback Butterflyfish, Chaetodon ephippium, is often found living on or around the reefs of the Indian and Pacific Oceans as well as the Great Barrier Reef. Members of the genus Chaetodon make gorgeous inhabitants of a fish only or fish only with live rock saltwater aquarium. A select group of corals and invertebrates are safe with different species, known problems and acceptable reef animals are noted in the Detailed Information section for each species. Peaceful or non-aggressive tankmates are recommended to reduce stress on the butterfly. When butterflyfish are first introduced to the aquarium, they may refuse to eat. Should the fish continue this behavior for three or more days, live food should be offered (if not from the beginning). Another useful method to encourage some butterflyfish to eat is to place their food inside of a coral skeleton. A number of butterflyfish will accept having other members of its species and family in the same aquarium, making a stunning display. If keeping a group of butterflyfish, they should all be introduced at the same time and have approximately 75 to 100 gallons of aquarium space each.
