The Rusty cichlid is generally peaceful toward other fish in the home aquarium, but can be considered somewhat aggressive toward members of its own species when establishing breeding territory. This fish may be picked on if it is kept with more aggressive cichlids, so care should be taken when choosing tank mates. A good varied diet of flake, frozen and pellet foods will help keep this fish in its optimal color. This is an excellent fish for beginners.
