Regal Angel
Regal Angelfish, Pygoplites diacanthus, displays dazzling coloration and is considered to be one of the more complicated fish available to the home aquarist. Requiring an extremely slow acclimation over many hours, the Regal Angel can definitely adjust to aquarium life. Diet variety and pristine water conditions in a well-established system will definitely contribute to the chances for success. As an active-swimming omnivore, the Regal Angel should be fed multiple times daily. Brine Shrimp, scallop, or carnivore frozen preparations will do fine for its meatier tastes. Spirulina, algae sheets, or herbivore frozen preparations will suit its vegetarian side. The Regal Angel is considered best kept in a fish-only aquarium as it may harm some Soft Corals, Clams, and Large Polyp Stony Corals. Small Polyp Stony Corals are said to sometimes be safe with the Regal Angel. It requires plenty of swimming space and plenty of Live Rock where it can retreat when desired.
This fish requires special care and is traditionally difficult to keep. It is, therefore, recommended only for the advanced aquarist or for aquatic research facilities.
