Red Snook
Found in Central America, the Red Snook was described by Gunther in 1862 as the Petenia splendida. In the wild, this fish can reach 20 inches in length and generally has a brown mottled body color. Farm raised versions are a red/orange, hence the name, Red Snook. The Snook is territorial and a voracious eater, so care should be taken with the types of tankmates you provide. Most other larger, fast fish (Tin Foil Barbs, Silver Dollars, etc.) would be good tankmates. In the wild the Snook eats primarily life foods, but in the aquarium will accept meaty foods/pellet foods. The perimeter of the aquarium should be planted and filled with rock caves to make the Red Snook feel at home.
