Red Pike Cichlid
Red Pike Cichlid, Crenicichla johanna, is a great fish for the semi-aggressive Cichlid aquarium. Though it is a naturally predatory species, it is rarely intentionally belligerent to other fish of equal or larger size. Also known as the Red-Finned or Gray Pike Cichlid, this fish may likely see any smaller fish as potential food. Plenty of rock and driftwood cover are needed to allow it space to hide as it stalks its next prey. Plant structures will often be uprooted, but the
Rough Stuff Plant Packages make an attractive, realistic addition that can often survive the rooting behavior of Cichlids. Pike Cichlids will usually not bother other large fish it cannot eat and can be kept with fish like Silver Dollars, Tinfoil Barbs, Severums and Oscars. Its coloration is accentuated by a prominent black stripe running along the body, through the eye, and extending to the rear edge of the body. Red will visible, to varying degrees, in the fins and in the eyes. It will readily accept frequent feedings of pellet foods, worms, or small feeder fish.
