Selected from breeding stock that developed more red color on the sides, the Red Oscar has lost most of the mottled pattern of the wild type and in place has a pretty much solid red side with darker margins around the red color. The rest of the body color is an olive green color. They do still have the characteristic “eye spot” on the tail that gives the Oscar its “ocellatus” name. Originally from South America, all Red Oscars are farm raised in Florida and SE Asia.
