Red Belly Pacu
Red Belly Pacu, Piaractus brachypomus, is a Peruvian native whose stately posture and shimmering scale tips help make it one of the more popular fish available to aquarium hobbyists. In captivity, it will typically grow to 8 inches or so, depending on the space provided. In the wild, this mammoth grows to more than two and a half feet in length. As a fish of this size coming from many primitive regions of the Amazon Basin, it is an important food fish to natives. An omnivore, it feeds on surface insects and on some plant matter. A good quality broad spectrum prepared food will suit it fine. Pellets will help to sate its appetite by providing more volume than standard flake food.
