Pueblan Milksnake

Pueblan Milk Snakes, (Lampropeltis triangulum campbelli), are native to Mexico. They are found in a wide variety of habitats and eat a wide variety of preys including snakes, lizards, amphibians, birds and rodents. Milk Snakes are well known for their tail rattling behaviors and their ability to consume Rattlesnakes. These snakes are very colorful and have become one of the most commonly kept snakes in captivity. Their coloration mimics the poisonous Coral Snakes for natural protection. Milk Snakes can easily be distinguished from Coral Snakes even though their coloration is the same. The red bands of a non-venomous Milk Snake touch the black bands; in Coral Snakes, the red bands touch the yellow bands. Most Milk Snakes must be housed singly because they consider other snakes as possible prey but Pueblan’s can often be kept in groups.
