Powder Brown Tang
The Acanthurus japonicus, better known as the Powder Brown Tang is one of the more delicate Tangs in terms of transport and acclimation to the home aquarium. It will fair best in an established aquarium with mature algae growth and plentiful hiding places, along with no aggressive tankmates. A "generally reef safe" fish, be sure to provide lots of algae and supplement this with zucchini, broccoli and spinach. In the wild it will grow to 8 inches in length and should be housed in at least a 75 gallon aquarium. Like all Tangs, it should be quarantined for 2 to 3 weeks prior to adding to a display aquarium. The Powder Blue and Powder Brown Tangs are likely to quarrel when placed in the same aquarium unless provided with a tremendous amount of space and Live Rock.
