Powder Blue Cichlid (Socolfi)
The Powder Blue Socolfi is a great looking fish with "fishy" origins. According to Dr. Alexrod, the Powder Blue, Pseudotropheus socolofi does not exist in the wild. He claims it is a crossbreed that he developed with a local collector at Lake Malawi, Peter Davis. It is named after a New Jersey fish importer and has been available to the hobby since the early 1970’s. The fish has a light blue body with black/blue striping to the dorsal and anal fins. There appears to be no external differences in the sexes and the Powder Blue acts like most rock dwelling Mbuna, preferring large rock formations with some open areas for spawning. The Powder Blue is not particularly aggressive and may be kept in groups, growing to about 5” in length. It is a mouthbrooder that prefers a vegetable based diet.
Approximate Arrival Size for Powder Blue Cichlid Socolfi: 1 to 2 in.
