Polynemus Pseudochromis
Polynemus Pseudochromis, Pseudochromis polynemus, has a personality and character similar to the equally astounding Splendid Pseudochromis. Also known as the Long Finned Pseudochromis, its coppery-silver body is highlighted by yellow tips on each scale. Its long, flowing pelvic fins are marked with a spot near the body. Under the eye is a striking orange or yellow marking, whose color varies by specimen. As of the larger member of the Pseudochromis family, this Pseudochromis can grow to about 5 inches in the wild, but rarely exceeds 3 inches in captivity. A carnivore like other Pseudochromis, it prefers a meaty diet that should include regular feedings of live or frozen foods. The Polynemus Pseudochromis may bother (eat) very small ornamental shrimp and may be defensive of its territory, but is a hardy, attractive aquarium addition. Aside from smaller crustaceans, this fish can be considered reef-safe and is commonly found darting and peering out from Finger Sponges and Finger Leather Corals in the wild.
