Even with the most controlled feeding of a mini-reef aquarium, there will be bits of food that will become trapped in the thousands of crevices between the Live Rock and coral branches. Without removal of this organic material, algae blooms will be a constant problem. The Pollution Prevention Team consists of two types of crabs and a Green Brittle Starfish that can get into the tiniest areas and scavenge uneaten bits of food or decaying organic material. The Sally Light Foot or the Arrow Crabs (depends on availability) will constantly scuttle about the rocks and corals and appear to be always eating. The Brittle Starfish will get between rocks and into tiny spaces to eliminate any wastes. Emerald Crabs are an amusing addition as they wander the tank in search of food.
