Pelewensis Butterfly

The Pelewensis Butterfly (Chaetodon pelewensis) is found among coral reefs with plenty of cover when found in the wild and in depths of 1 to 30 meters. This fish is known to consume coral polyps as well as small benthic invertebrates, so it should not be kept in a reef aquarium. This fish occurs naturally in the waters of the Western Pacific Ocean and is very commonly seen in the Barrier Reef area around Australia.

This fish can be a shy feeder, but once it has gotten into a routine it will accept a wide variety of foods and feed readily. Mysis and brine shrimp are a good place to start with feeding but more broad spectrum carnivore and herbivore foods such as frozen Formula One and Formula Two are also a good bet for this butterfly. At an adult size this fish can reach five inches in length, but that is less common in a home aquarium.

Approximate arrival size: 2.5 to 3.5 inches
