Pearly Gudgeon Goby
A grouping of Pearly Gudgeon Gobies, Ptereleotris microlepis, makes a brilliant display under actinic lighting and is also a great reef-safe addition singularly. With a maximum length at around five inches, its size makes it perfect for large and for small aquariums. Also known as the Filamented Dartfish, it is a "leaper" and requires a covered aquarium. Their bodies reflect sheens of blue while some even more fluorescing blue vertical bars are often distinguishable. It will accept a variety of foods including brine shrimp and bloodworms, and will typically accept flake food fairly easily. Like other members of the Goby family, this fish is a skilled leaper and requires a tightly covered aquarium. It is completely peaceful against other species and of members of its own family. If more than one is to be placed in the same aquarium, it is best to introduce them simultaneously and to allow plenty of space. Be sure to house it with compatible aquarium mates that will not be overly aggressive or confrontational to the Pearly Gudgeon Goby. Great singly or in groups, this reef-safe fish readily adapts to a diet of frozen or live shrimp such as Mysis Shrimp or Brine Shrimp, but does require frequent feeding to ensure best health.
