Ogo Plant

Ogo Plant, Graciliaria parvisipora, is a tasty Tang treat that is also enjoyed by most any aquatic herbivores. Colorful and attractive, the Ogo Plant grows in a cluster that resembles a dark rose-colored aquatic “tumbleweed.” This plant is invaluable in helping new Tangs to eat when first being introduced to the home aquarium. Tangs have been known to eat Ogo while still in the acclimation bag. Although this is not necessarily recommended, it does attest to the magnetism of this Hawaiian plant to members of the Tang family. Ogo is prepared and eaten by people in many parts of the world and is considered nutritious for humans as well as fish. Known as limu manauea to native Hawaiians, Ogo also provides a great refuge in the home aquarium for smaller fish or ornamental shrimp. This plant grows as a number of longer stalks (about a 6” maximum) with solid cylindrical branches of about ½” in length. Placement of Ogo should be on the bottom in an area of low to moderate water flow. It does well at most lighting levels.

Ships as a “dry weight” packaged in saltwater.
