The Mono is an omnivore, readily accepting most foods, but in its native environment it does tend to favor vegetable type material. Supplementing its diet with spirulina or seaweed sheets will help keep a Mono healthy and happy. Anyone contemplating keeping Mono or brackish water fish needs to be prepared to adjust the water to higher and higher salt content as the fish matures. The fish start out in fresh water, but as they grow they move closer to the ocean where the salt content of water is much higher. Increasing the salinity of your aquarium as this fish matures will help keep it healthy and happy.
