In the wild this fish is found in very deep water, and it is a rare fish in the marine hobby due to the difficulty of collection. When the fish becomes available for purchase, quantities will be extremely limited often with just one or two on hand. Technically considered a carnivore, this fish when kept in captivity is more of an omnivore and will feed on both meaty and vegetable foods. The usual Mysis shrimp and meaty foods are enticing to this fish and are a good place to start with feeding once the butterfly is acclimated to its new home.
Approximate arrival size for Mitratus: Medium 2-3”
