Malabar Danio

Malabar Danio, Danio Malabaricus, is as hardy and active a Danio as its cousin, the Zebra Danio, but has the benefit of size, making it popular for larger freshwater aquariums. Originating from Western India, the Giant Danio - as it is also known - can grow to six inches in the wild, but rarely exceeds 4 inches in captivity. Mature males of this blue-gray bodied fish with yellow striping also display reddish coloration on the fins. pH and hardness of the water is not as important as overall water cleanliness and water circulation. Best kept in schools, it will not harm any but possibly the smallest of other fish. It is best kept with fish of similar or larger size and should be given plenty of room. The Malabar Danio will eagerly accept dry, frozen, and live preparations and should be fed frequently, without being overfed.

Approximate arrival size for Malabar Danio: 1.5 to 3 inches
