While this fish is considered peaceful and fairly timid, it will tend to fight with others of its kind or fish that are similar in appearance at least until the social hierarchy is established within the aquarium. In the wild the Madagascar Butterfly, also known as the Seychelles Butterfly, will feed on coral polyps and small invertebrates so keeping this fish in an aquarium containing corals is unwise. In the home aquarium Mysis shrimp, Cyclop-eeze and the like should be offered. This fish absolutely must be kept in good water quality, so those who do not do regular water changes should not attempt to bring this fish home.
