Bodianus anthioides, this fish undergoes little transformation of color from juvenile to adulthood. Like other Hogfish, the juveniles may clean parasites from other fish. It is not recommended for the reef aquarium, as larger specimens may feed on smaller invertebrates and may damage clam mantles. The Lyretail Hogfish has a golden snout and mainly a white body. Maroon spots occur on the body and the long swept tail is outlined with two striking maroon bars. An active fish, it does require feeding multiple times per day of meaty foods such as brine shrimp, black worms, or saltwater feeder shrimp maintain best health. The Lyretail Hogfish may grow to eight inches in the wild, typically a little smaller in the home aquarium.
