Live Flightless Fruit Fly Culture
These fruit flies are flightless, so there is no need to worry about opening a vial and having them fly all over your home. These are the perfect feeder for newly born small reptiles and amphibians that may not be able to take a 1/4 inch cricket yet. We offer two different sizes of flies. Melongaster is a smaller fly, about the size of a pinhead cricket, this would be the perfect size to choose for a young dart frog for example, as darts have such a tiny mouth. The second type of fly we offer is the Hydei, and it is a larger fruitfly of approximately 1/8” in size and about the size of a pinhead cricket. The Hydei would be more appropriate for a little older dart frog, or for small lizards or other small amphibians such as Mantella or reed frogs. Each vial comes with between 50 and 100 active flies in the culture, and many more will be produced. One culture will continue to produce flies for up to five weeks. Ordering a quantity of one of these item numbers will get you four fly cultures in vials. Flies can remain stored in the vials as they hatch. It is recommended to feed off flies from each culture during the week to keep any one culture from being over populated.
Top feeding fish also love fruit flies, so we suggest trying some for your Bettas, Archers, or Datnoids!
