This variety of koi has its origin in the 1800s, so it is one of the oldest varieties available to those who want to acquire koi. The pattern for this type of koi is bright red against a background of nearly pristine white. Ideally the white will be pure, but often there may be a slight hint of yellow which is present even on champion koi. This fish is often considered the “classic” koi, and is the first koi in many collections.
