This fish will tend to be shy, preferring to be active at night when the aquarium lights are turned off. The face and body of this fish are optimal for burrowing in the substrate, which is one of its normal behaviors. It is not uncommon to think this fish has disappeared, only to find it several days later when it pops out of the gravel to eat. The Horseface Loach is considered a carnivore, but is also a feeder of opportunity and will scavenge other food when it is hungry.
