They are active, efficient scavengers who are more active and arguably more attractive than many other cleaners. These fish are constantly in motion, either in searching for leftover food at the bottom of the aquarium or making their way to the surface of the aquarium for a gulp of air. Corydoras catfish, like Bettas and Gouramis, have a labyrinth organ. They must visit the surface occasionally to avoid suffocation. Though they come from clean water areas, they can survive poor water conditions. Corydoras are sensitive to salt in the water and, thus, salt should be kept to a minimum. Though peaceful and small (rarely exceeding 2 inches in length), this fish can definitely stand its ground against any potential predators with its armored body and spined fins.
