Head & Tail Light Tetra
The pinkish spot both on the base of the tail, and just behind the eyes, is where the Head & Tail Light Tetra gets its’ name. This Tetra, Hemigrammus ocellifer, which originated in the tributaries of South America, is ideal for the beginner aquarist. He is a very hardy, peaceful, community safe fish, which in captivity will grow to 1.5” (4 cm). He is inter-species compatible with the following: Other Tetras, Loricarids, Corydoras, Apistogramma, Discus, Livebearers, and Gouramis. The best environment for this Tetra is a 30 gallon planted tank with rocks and driftwood for hiding places. The temperature range for this planted tank should be 72-79° F (22-26° C). As far as feeding he is an omnivore so he requires both flake/small granular foods and of course live or frozen foods. As far as sexing the Head & Tail Light Tetra: the Female has a broader body than the male.
