Green Tiger Barb
Green Tiger Barb, Capoeta tetrazona, is a fish best kept in schools for best effect in the freshwater aquarium. Also known as the Mossy Tiger Barb, these beautiful fish are metallic shining gold in color with a green marbled flourescence on the body. Males are adorned with red accent marking at the nose and on the top fin, bottom fin, and tail fins. A fin-nipper when kept singly or in smaller groups, it should be kept with fish of equal semi-aggressiveness or, as previously suggested, kept in a large group as the primary species of the aquarium. It is theorized that larger groups are less likely to be aggressive toward other aquarium inhabitants. The Sumatran and Bornean native does require some vegetable matter in its diet for maximum coloration, but will enthusiastically eat any food provided. Preferring warm water at 75 to 85 degrees and soft, slightly acidic water, the Green Tiger Barb can be enticed to spawn by further softening the water to which it is accustomed.
