A farm raised variety of the wild type Brachydanio rerio originally found in eastern India by Hamilton in 1822. The Danios are a very active, peaceful fish that prefer to school and will require some open space for swimming. The edges of the aquarium should be planted to make the Danios secure and to offer a hiding place when threatened. Mature females will have a broader, stouter body than the male. The Danio is an egg-scattering breeder, usually breeding in shallow water. They will display best when kept in groups of at least six or more. The Gold Zebra Danio has a nearly solid golden body color, with just a hint of the original blue horizontal stripes.
