A very active fish, the Gold Barb is best kept in schools of at least 5 or more. They will require open areas for swimming, but also need planted areas for shelter. While the wild type can grow to 4 inches in length, most kept in the home aquarium will be about 2 inches in size. The body is a golden color with irregular black mottling, mostly along the lateral line. The fins are also golden and may show a hint of red to their base. As an omnivore, the Gold Barb will accept nearly all prepared aquarium foods.
