Geophagus Surinamensis
As the name implies, the Geophagus (earth eater) will continually shift through the substrate in search of food. For this reason the aquarium should have a fine gravel or sandy bottom. Any rocks should be securely placed to avoid having the fish undermine them and cause them to tumble over and possibly collapse on the fish. This fish should be kept in a 75 gallon or larger aquarium, as it can reach a length of up to 12 inches in captivity. This fish can handle a wide variety of tank conditions, with a PH from 6.5 up to 8.5 and also a wide temperature range.
