Garra Pingi Algae Eater
Fairly new to the aquarium hobby, the Garra pingi or Garra Pingi Algae Eater is one of the latest attempts to help control algae in the aquarium. First described by Tchang in 1929, this fish is more peaceful and a better algae eater than the Chinese Algae Eater. The Pingi comes from SE Asia and can reach 10 inches in length in the wild. It has an elongated body with an under slung sucker mouth that allows it to scrape the algae from rock or glass surfaces. The body color is a mottled tan and black. Relatively hardy, the Pingi does not bother other fish as some of their cousins do, but the diet will need to be supplemented with algae disc. There should be some driftwood or rock caves for the Pingi to rest in, out of the commotion of the rest of the tank inhabitants.
Approximate arrival size for Garra Pingi Algae Eater: 2 to 3.5 inches
