Frontosa Cichlid
The Frontosa Cichlid, Cyphotilapia frontosa, is endemic to the African rift lake Tanganyika. Like other freshwater fish from the rift lakes, aquarium water should be buffered to a specific pH level. For Tanganyikan Cichlids this range is 7.4 to 9.4 and several products are available to handle this requirement. Frontosa shipped may be of 6 bar or 7 bar variety. If one is preferred over the other, please let us know when ordering. C. frontosa has a carnivorous diet made up of small fish and invertebrates. When spawning, females carry the young in their mouth. The incubation period is lengthy at five weeks. The male of the species does not actively participate in the raising of young. It is best to have one male with several females when trying to breed this fish. All captive raised cichlids offered by Pet Solutions are first generation offspring (F1) from wild caught stock. This allows us to offer the brightest colored cichlids available.
