Flame Tetra
The color contrast of the silver body with a bright red streak along the anal fin is striking! That is the distinct marking of the Flame Tetra. Other markings include two black stripes behind the gills and a blue eye ring. This Tetra is also known as the “Von Rio Tetra” or the scientific name Hyphessobrycon flammeus. The healthier the fish the brighter the red coloration, to obtain this feed a high quality diet. The Flame Tetra will display its best color after you have owned it for a few months. This fish originated in South America, specifically, Brazil, around Rio de Janeiro. This active schooling fish is ideal for the beginner aquarist because he is very hardy, peaceful, and community safe. The Flame Tetra is at home with other peaceful tank mates in a 10 gallon tank with a temperature range of 70-82º F (23-28º C). As stated before feed a high quality diet such as flakes, brine shrimp, bloodworms or frozen foods to ensure the health and color of this Tetra. When sexing this fish you will look for the male to display a red anal fin, whereas the female has a white tipped ventral fin.
