Figure 8 Puffer
The Figure 8 Puffer would be a unique addition to your Puffer collection. This little fish displays various green to yellow patterns resembling a figure 8, hence the name. This particular Puffer originated in Southeast Asia and is scientifically known as the Tetraodon biocellatus. Most Puffers including this one are best suited for the intermediate to advanced aquarist due to the fact that they are very aggressive. They are not community aquarium safe or inter-species compatible. This means it is recommended that they be kept with either only other Puffers or combined with fast moving fish. Even amongst themselves, at all ages, these Puffers are aggressive towards their own species. The best aquatic environment for the Figure 8 is a 30 gallon tank with a few hiding places and a temperature range of 72-79º F (22-26º C). Diet is a challenge for owners of Puffers because they strictly eat live or frozen foods such as snails, shrimp, worms, daphnia, clams, and oysters. The best way to try and sex the Figure 8 Puffer is by size; the females are slightly larger.
